As I'm coming up on my final days at university, I'm beginning to realize something. Something that I wished I'd realized years ago, before I ever started down this road.
I am disgustingly average. No matter what so-called 'artistic' endevor I take on - writing, drawing, painting - It all seems to come out the same. Unspectacular, overshadowed, diseased by a little thing called, "never enough."
The past two days have been... brutal. A massive critique on my Sr. show that kind of made me want to break the fingers on my drawing hand yesterday... results on my writing portfolio today that, essentially, put me at 'passable... barely'.
I work... I do what I can. But in the end, will it ever be enough? Not likely. But at this point, I don't really have a choice. It's either do this thing, and possibly fail spectacularly, or get a steady job at a factory and watch everything around me turn to grey.
Honestly... I don't know which scares me more.
I'm not asking for your pity, but for your honesty. When you look at this body of work, is it worth anything? It's a part of my soul... and what good is a shoddy soul?
I don't know.

Calling All Judges!
Hello! #Cryptid-Hunters-OCT (https://www.deviantart.com/cryptid-hunters-oct) is currently looking for judges! If you are timely, good at giving both constructive criticism and compliments for work well done, and generally have thick skin, please note me here, or under the moniker LawdyLawdOCTHorde (https://www.deviantart.com/lawdylawdocthorde). I can work with people who both use the site frequently or barely at all, and look forward to hearing from you!

An OCT Aimed at Newcomers?
So, I had a thought a while ago, but I never really came back to it until recently.
What if a Language teacher made a mandatory OCT that extended the length of the school year (maybe more of an OCL), and the student's grades indicated whether they moved up or down the roster? Then, rounds were decided by the tiers the student found themselves in.
Yeah... it probably wouldn't work in a school setting.
... but it might work here!
So my question to you is: Would you like to see an OCT aimed at people who want to learn how to write/draw better? Like, every round might have a different writing challenge or something, and the emphasis is less o

Three things.
1st. Continue Nostalgia's Genius.
2nd. keep working on your perspective, it's good, mostly, but even I can tell when something looks a little awkward.
3rd. Shading. If you're going to keep drawing things without lines, your shading has to be Impeccable. For instance, the chin. There may not be a line there, but the shadow below it cuts off quite abruptly, and is normally the most obvious shadow on the body, forming the Impression of a line. I'd suggest trying black and whites for a while, but I've never been very good at "How" advice, I really only know how to do criticism.
Okay, four things.
I want you to take a look at a comic. It's really nothing special, but that's the reason I love it. The art is simple, but finished. It's mostly comedy, and slice of life, not necessarily what you're going for, but take a look anyway.

The point I'm trying to make is, What it does, it does well.
You don't need to find something that everyone else tells you to do. Find that thing that YOU do, do it well, and everyone else will love it because you do.
